-These boys came to us as a transfer from another rescue when one of their founders passed away. They are good boys but can definitely be shy at first so we go slow with them and pick them up in towels. Once we get them, they are very sweet and love to snuggle! Female rats are usually more active and playful while males are usually more cuddly and lazy. -Benson came in as an owner surrender when his owner couldnt keep him anymore. Hes a very sweet boy who is a little timid at first and needs some work on being held, but he is very friendly and a gentle boy who is so curious about people and his new place to live! - This group of 12 boys came in after a large group of 40 were rescued from a breeding/neglect situation. When they arrived we had to treat them for mites and some for upper respiratories but they are all doing wonderful and ready to start finding homes! We have them split into a group of 6 and a group of 4, plus a single who doesn't play nice with others. They can be adopted in groups in their selective cages. All of these boys are slightly skittish but warming up so well. They enjoy being held, have never been aggressive, and let you pick them up and hold them. They are all big, all squishy, and all just wonderful dudes who lay in big cuddle piles! They are becoming more outgoing and curious everyday! Female rats are usually more active and playful while males are usually more cuddly and lazy. - We took in a large group of 20+ rats from a neglect situation where they were being raised as feeders. These are the five boys we took in. They are absolutely GORGEOUS boys and surprisingly all very friendly and outgoing. They run to the front of the cage for attention when we go to open the door. They are currently very food obsessed which is common with rats coming from these types of situations but that should dissipate over time. They will be adopted in pairs, trios or as a group. Female rats are usually more active and playful while males are usually more cuddly and lazy. -Tucker came in as a shelter transfer when he wasn’t settling in well in the shelter environment. At first he was barky and scared but now that he’s settled in he’s really a good little guy. He will come up to you on his own, but chinchillas need to learn to trust. He enjoys head and chin scratches a lot as well as treats so we’ve been using those to make friends with him! He’s a little nervous settling in which is normal chinchilla behavior and just needs someone who can allow him to trust them (he seems like he didn’t come from the best of environments). Chinchillas can live 20 years with proper care! We do not recommend chinchillas for children as they do not make good pets for children under 12. They require a specialized habitat with multiple levels, specific food, and regular grooming care. Ozzie is more jumpy than the other two but also very sweet. Once I got him and he knew he was safe he let me hold him. I think with more age and handling he’ll be an awesome little dude!
